It’s been a roller coaster ride for group travel since the beginning of the Great Recession and the financial doldrums it brought. Corporate travel was impacted as companies slashed business trips and conferences from their budgets. Group leisure travelers began to hold more tightly to their dollars. And, a generation of senior group customers literally started dying off.
The light at the end of the tunnel has started shining a little brighter in 2015, however. The Global Business Travel Association estimates that group business for meetings will increase this year by 1.6% and another 2.5% in 2016. Group leisure travel is coming back too.
Some advertisers are already taking steps to win back the wave of group travel that everyone hopes will materialize.
In addition to print and TV ads, they are enlisting a new tool that wasn’t available to them when the great Recession began: YouTube.
